FS2004 stopped working

Some point this Autumn, I before I upgraded to Windows 10, MSFS2004 suddenly stopped working on my machine. You double clicked the icon, the exe started and then exe stopped without so much as an error message.I checked after the upgrade, still didn't work. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling, I tried removing any add-ons that might be messing it up, basically cleaning everything off. Even tried manually removing anything mentioning FS from the registry and reinstalling again and still no luck.

I wondered if it might be graphics/driver/directx related. DirectX claims to be working correctly. I have no other games so no real way of verifying this. ANyone any thoughts?

I was thinking about finally getting FSX steam addition (only 10 years late into FSX ) and getting some payware aircraft, but I don't want to spend money and then find it still doesn't work.

Any useful suggestions gratefully received

Ok, googled again (hadn't googled for a a month or two about this issue) and found the problem, which also explained the randomness of it stopping working. I wondered whether some "update" had killed it:

Thanks for that info Toby.As yet I haven't met that problem but I already have the fs9 no cd patch downloaded but not yet installed.At the moment I'm still running XP ( yes I know ) while I decide what to do as upgrading my current old,but functioning pc, would not be worthwhile.
If or when I get a new pc and maybe go for FSX or P3d I'll certainly be making a nuisance of myself by asking several questions around here. EricT

Load the nocd patch for gods sake Just keep a backup of your original safe and put the nocd version in its place. Make sure you have the right one as there are 2 knocking around. One is for the original FS9 and the other is for FS9 with service patch.

There's really no point in having to keep putting your disc 4 in mate. It can be filed away with the others and put somewhere safe
