Re: Whirlwind

Thanks. It seems still seems funny looking at one in camouflage (even if I did paint half of it!), its the only one in a museum in RAF support colurs, and the only aircraft (other that the Huey at middle Wallop which is actually an Argie) carrying UN colours. UKMIL, I'll get some more detailed ones ...

Re: Whirlwind

I said I'd post more photos at some point, this is our latest restoration HAR10 XP345, couldn't post them earlier, roll out day was last saturday and couldn't ruin the surprise for anyone attending. http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y91/jamesstables/DSC01118.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y91/j...

Re: Whirlwind

Its looking much better. I think you're right about the nose being slightly too long. The longer nose does seem to make the rest look much better proportioned though.

Agree with Garry about the cockpit and windows too.

Re: Whirlwind

Sorry didn't get any shots today, had a half hour job to do and ended up taking all day! I think overall it looks slightly squashed, I think it could just be the nose which makes it like that, it seems slightly short. The turbine nose is about 4 feet longer than the piston one. Its worth noting too ...

Re: Whirlwind

Good start so far. Theres one or two bits which don't look quite right to me, I'll try to get some photos to illustrate tomorrow, got a bit less painting to do tomorrow. Heres a few old shots off my computer, all of the HAR10 prototype XJ398 which is pretty much representitive of an in-service SAR H...

Re: Gmax Guru required!!!!!!

Ask James S if you are short of info, I think he is the Whirlwind expert here. Anything you need to know just ask. I'm a bit busy at the moment with getting our latest one sprayed up which is taking up a lot of my time at the museum but should be able to get any photos needed in a week or two. (if ...

Re: Gmax Guru required!!!!!!

Excellent progress Jon, its much more like a sioux now. Bugger, late again! If the Shack proves a bit too big, how about a good old Whirlwind HAR 10, without the winch , but with a step it has loads of tactical re-paint possibilities and then the is the Queens Flight version. Jon, is it within your ...

Re: Gmax Guru required!!!!!!

Shame but I think there would be quite a bit of work in it.

I've always thought the Whirlwind is very overlooked (not just in FS!). Obviously it started as an american design but by the end was a very different aircraft to the S-55, and saw a lot of active service too.

Re: Gmax Guru required!!!!!!

That panel shot looks slightly different to other Sioux cockpits I've seen, certaintly XT242 is different. I'll see if I have a photo of one somewhere. Edit: http://www.army.mod.uk/aviation/7358.aspx is a more standard panel. http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Bell_47G_Sioux_HT_mk2_Interior-001....

Re: Gmax Guru required!!!!!!

I just posted in the repaints thread, I'd be happy to get pictures if any are needed.

Main mods which come to mind are the panel and probably aerials.

I'm not sure the tanks on the model are quite the right shape either, they don't seem square enough.
