Re: It's those Bear necessities...
Having spent many hours being hauled around by the magnificent T56/501s, I would suggest that most folks miss the most important issue with the turboprop. You can look out the window and tell if everything's still running! Really reassuring to the pilot. Do that with your typical bug-sucker!

Re: Americas Cup
Not to gloat, but the cup stays in the USA. The greatest comeback in the history of sport! Seriously, the technology of these boats is just amazing. I don't even sail and I'm impressed. The boats can sail at over 50 kts downwind and close to 30 kts upwind. The referees and umpires have a hard time k...

Re: Premium Bonds
Bravo! You could not have made a better investment! In my mis-spent youth, I invested heavily in the UK export scheme, investing in MGs, Healys and Lotus (Lotii? a Europa, Elan and 7). I was seduced by the beauty and promise and never seemed to learn. They all quickly brought sorrow and disappointme...

Re: How badly do I need an iPhone?
I too suffered a serious case of iPhone desire. After lots of thought, I bought an iPOD touch which has almost all of the features of the iPhone except for the expensive data plan. Its WiFi only (free WiFi is everywhere here) and slides easily into my shirt pocket. Its also lighter and thinner than ...

Re: Hybrid/Early 1-11's
I am a little late to this thread, but I have an interest in the airlines of Hawaii. Aloha was an early US customer and bought two, delivered in 1966 followed by a third in 1967 that was exhibited at the Paris Airshow. BAC's test pilot "Willy" Williamson so enjoyed working with Aloha that ...

Re: FSX WIP: Edgley-Optica
Nice to know they're still flying. One of the few truly unique modern aircraft designs. I've used the FS9 version for years to examine new scenery from above. The vis and slow flight of a helo with conventional handling. Nothing like it. Pity it wasn't a real world success.

Re: Problem with the new Viscount
I too have experienced the "wobbles". It seems to be more of a high speed buffet or flutter with the nose rapidly pitching up and down a few degrees in level or descending flight at airspeeds of 200-220 kias. My most recent test was at 4000 ft at a weight of 53,000 lbs. Slowing down to 180...

Re: Turboprop Question
I would add a 3rd type, the constant speed, single shaft engine such as the Allison T-56/501 series and I think, some of the Garretts. The RR Dart series varies the power and RPM with the power lever (throttle and fuel trimmers). The Allison maintains a constant, fixed RPM for all flight conditions ...
