Re: Astronomy on your mobile!

[...] Stellarium at first glance, seems to offer all that Starry Night did with the added bonus that I saw a satellite! Yes, and actually this is really handy for anyone who wants to try viewing the International Space Station with an astronomical telescope (quite tricky as I mentioned earlier, bec...

Re: Capt John Hutchinson Talks About Air France Concorde Crash

Hi Nick, thought you might be interested in these two videos [...] Thanks Nigel - I'll certainly make time to watch them once the summery weather departs! In fact, that whole "aircrew interviews" Youtube channel had passed me by and there looks to be some very interesting stuff on there. ...

Re: Capt John Hutchinson Talks About Air France Concorde Crash

Thanks for posting Nigel - that was a very compelling account of the crash and all its causes by John Hutchinson. I really think I should have a read of his biography [ISBN: 978-0-9562176-2-2]: apparently it's available on Kindle for just £3.99 at the moment. He's certainly led an eventful life, inc...

Re: Astronomy on your mobile!

Yes, Nick, we do have dark skies in this neck of the woods. I think one of the most awesome* experiences we can have is to look up at the night sky on a really clear, properly dark night. Hope you (and of course the missus) have lots of fun with the 'scope Mike. Looking at a bright full moon throug...

Re: Astronomy on your mobile!

My favourite is Stellarium . The iPhone app is £2.99 but the PC desktop version is free and a very impressive piece of software. The cheap 4" Newtonian reflector telescope I've had since I was a kid still gets some use when I can be bothered to get it out, sometimes I even think about upgrading...

Re: Sad News

Shocked and very saddened to read this news this morning. I'm only a recent and occasional visitor, but Dave's warmth and his immense contribution to the community here was very obvious. My thoughts go out to his family and to you guys here who have known him well for many years.

ATB Dave.

Re: Prepard3D v4

That lots there so you can do a repair if needed. True and I didn't delete the files but rather moved them to a (much bigger) HDD. :) Just goes to show that it's worth keeping an eye on what installers leave behind cluttering up our systems. For instance, NVIDIA driver installers also tend to leave...

Re: Prepard3D v4

I'm a bit of a latecomer to the P3D party (only got v.3 last Autumn and I've now installed v.4 too) so I've only just cottoned onto the fact the fact that the software sneakily leaves gurt big folders (some 12 GB worth) lurking in the "C:\ProgramData\Package Cache" directory. And this is e...

Re: Stratolaunch roll-out

Certainly is an interesting configuration. I wonder why they didn't join the two horizontal stabilisers together to provide a bit more structural rigidity as with the DH.100 and its de Havilland brethren, the P-38 and the (almost as funny looking) F-82 'Twin Mustang'. At least it would have looked a...

Re: Christmas Quiz

How's about Air Vice Marshall Donald Bennett/BSAA :cpu: ¡Si Senor! We have a winner! That Don Bennett was a rather interesting character. Hailing from Toowoomba (In QLD) he's most famous for leading Bomber Command's Pathfinder Force in World War II. However, after his RAF service he acted a...
