Re: Comet 1 Autopilot Question

Talking of Navigation - I see Jens mentions a 'zero reader' that was too difficult to implement. Was that a predecessor of DME? since, I notice the latter isn't latter fitted to the Comet 1 Panel nor, a chronograph - either/both of which would assist of course, in plotting. Meantime, she flies beaut...

Re: Vistaliners 727-100 Dan-Air Paints

Talking of 727 Panels - isn't Richard Probst's version worthy of consideration? I always thought this was the favourite freeware version available? (Incidentally, I had the good fortune to fly on the real thing - Dan-Air 727 - back in February 1984 from Gatwick to Munich Reim, en route to Austria fo...

New D.H. Heron incl. Panel?

Firstly, I'm not one of those people who keep pestering about the release of new models - it's just that, the 'random' picture which came up, when I last accessed this site, appeared to be of a new Heron Panel (the two engine gauges each appeared to have two needles - i.e. 4 engines in total.). It s...

Re: New Trident Book

I obtained it even cheaper - walked into Colchester Library Saturday morning and found it on the shelves and, I was the first lender!

Frankly, think the previous book is more comprehensive although, in this new publication, some nice anecdotes and brings the preservation story relatively upto date.

Re: bac 111 engine switch off

Politely back on topic,

Whilst I usually use the top temp switches for most take-offs - I always switch them off when well established in the climb (say above 5-6,000') since by then you normally can't overheat the engines, as well as achieving a bit more thrust performance.

Slightly Adult Joke

Following several air crashes, all airliners are now fitted with a Ground Proximity Warning Device. If the plane gets near the ground other than in a landing configuration, an electronic voice shouts "Terrain! Terrain!, Pull Up!, Pull Up!." Hearing it will galvanise aircrew into immediate ...

Re: New Miles Messenger at Classic British Files?

Sorry to keep referring to cinematic links (see Comet 1 thread) - but wasn't one of these in civilian markings used in the opening shots of 633 squadron as the getaway plane for the Norwegian Resistance guy? I particularly remember the triple tail.

Re: FS2004 Comet 1

He jumped on the prototype (large wheels)....so one of two aircraft Thanks for that - I also remember one of the subsequent shots might have been filmed at the D.H. Hatfield factory - I vaguely recollect he was arguing in an upstairs office with his wife and, in the background was the Comet 1 assem...

Re: FS2004 Comet 1

Re the updated Ghost engines - any chance of a cartridge bang at the beginning of the start sequence? I remember this in the Film 'Sound Barrier' when one of the Test Pilots hitched a lift from Cairo back to Hatfield aboard a Comet 1, and recollect you heard this quite noticeably when she fired up. ...

Re: Lancastrian Panel

On the subject of the freeware Lancastrian - lovely plane/panel - Whilst the ADF gauges work well - I find that the BABS gauge indicator for use with en route VOR's - only the DME indicator works (and of course when you are relatively close to and within range of the tuned in beacon). The needle for...
