I've started Viscount engines & the stairs didn't disappear, in fact the only way I can fly it at the moment is with doors open & stairs dangling !
The clue must be in the screenshot I showed of the preview page in FSX . It's the only aircraft with open doors & stairs out on that page.

Hi Ben, best fps I've ever had is just now at a momentary 20 but mostly 18 over vanilla scenery. In DX10 preview it works way better but bits of scenery become grey boxes. So as said earlier Steves fixer might do the trick.
