Andy,

I know what you mean - overdoing 'shine' can look like a thick layer of plastic wrap. You're doing it the right way

Steve,

All the very best to you and your wife.

Andy,

It's better, but still looks like an 'eggshell sheen'. The photo in the Putnam book shows the a/c very high gloss, rather like the Pathfinder Valiant.

As Steve says, though, if the alpha's unavailable, perhaps this is as far as it can go.

Good try!

Steve,

The only slightly useful comment I can make is to quote from the caption to a photo of VX185 in the Putnam 'English Electric Aircraft' book, which mentions '.... the remarkably high-gloss black overall finish'.

'High-gloss' it is.

Hobby, Performance parameters which are affected by winds, such as range, take-off distances (TORA/TODA/ASDA when referred to the airfield), initial climb angle to clear a 50' obstacle, landing distances, etc ARE always referred to still-air conditions and (usually) sea-level ISA (International Stan...

Yes, there is often a confusion between tas & ias: performance figures are almost invaribly quoted as true air speed, but numbers relevant to aircraft structural limits as found in Pilot's Notes, for example, may well be quoted as indicated air speed, because that is what matters in that case. T...

Hi Chris, If you are dealing with performance, rather than handling issues with an aircraft, much of the .air file will not be of concern. However, what you will need to look at (in both the Aircraft.cfg file and .air file) are the sections dealing with both drag and thrust. For any high-performance...

Hi guys, My Dad flew Spitfires operationally during the war, from the Mk I to the Mk VIII and IX, and post-war flew the Mk 22, with the Griffon. He tells me that from the pure flying point of view, the Mk V with a Merlin 55 was the nicest 'pilot's aeroplane'. However, as an aeroplane to fight with, ...
