I suppose I could brush up on the use of FMC's etc. and see what I remember and let the autopilot do the work but I was thinking of starting at the beggining and hand flying the aircraft.

Yeah, I've got FDC but not really used it in-depth, I'm returning to FS after a few years away from it. It's OK, it provides you with a co-pilot to read out checklists and raise gear and flaps etc. all dependant on the type of a\c you are flying.

I was searching for information on callsigns and read that early aircraft used reg numbers instead of callsigns and wondered if this meant airlines such as BOAC and BEA etc. had callsigns or not?

I have downloaded the alternative sound files for the Trident and VC10 and after a quick test of them all seems to be well, hopefully that has resolved my problem, there must be something in the original sound files that the Audigy just doesn't like?
