What's the green plastic covering on the Lynx?

I think we should be told.

Re: Farnborough 1962 - Colour Photos

Yes you are correct.

Mr Mereweather must have wondered at the coincedence of 2 engine fires resulting in 2 dead stick landings on 2 airfields within 10 miles of each other!

Re: Farnborough 1962 - Colour Photos

You are right regarding Hugh Mereweather's engine fire. It was with XP984 on 19 March 65 and during a dive from 28000 ft the engine failed and caught fire. He made a sucessful emergency landing at Thorney Island and the aircraft flew again on 15 Oct 65. Hugh received an OBE for his gallantry. It is ...

Thanks for the info Jason. I will use it as the repaints for the late 70's Jags in RAFG are pretty rare.

I don't remember any 2 sqn Jags ever having practice bombs on the centreline hardpoint. It was always carrying the recon pod.

But I could be wrong.

Don't hate me for this!

Some more stuff on the Beverley:

The airspeed indicator was replaced with a calender

It used the world's first oil burning, petrol cooled engined

It did not accelerate, it just got under way

Often only got airborne due to the curvature of the earth

Whilst the Thunderbirds are good, did anyone ever see the Blue Angels at Finningley in (I think) 1992?

I have never seen such quality, skill and sheer balls in a display.

A real show!

Great story telling again!

We can all remember those scrapes we got into during our flying. I recall from my RAF days a magazine called 'Air Clues' that ran a regular feature called ' I learn't about flying from that '.

A thought for a new thread perhaps?
