Re: Asiana Crash Landing San Francisco

I don't the nationalities of both both pilots but I wonder if they were both Asian whether the Asian trait of loss of face comes into the accident. If the P1 was senior to P2 was the P2 reluctant to call airspeed low? It wouldn't be the first time that has featured in a Far Eastern operator's accide...

Re: Another BA own goal

A One-Eleven once arrived at EDI from LGW with a GS screwdriver in the intake. As it was lying across the Inlet Guide Vanes it never got sucked in.

Re: BA engine issue at Heathrow

Maybe an aid could be a tick box sheet that is checked as each vital is examined, like a cockpit check list. That wouls be better than some sort of electric warning device. It doesn't need a tick box Garry, it just needs log book entry to say the cowls have been opened. Especially after the number ...

Re: BA engine issue at Heathrow

The only reason for that comparison is because they both have the same engine and cowlings made by the same supplier . As such, it is a very reasonable and correct line of discussion to compare the two aircraft and their installations and why cowling separations are a problem on the A320 family and...

Re: BA engine issue at Heathrow

http://cdn-www.airliners.net/aviation-photos/middle/1/6/7/2253761.jpg You will notice the 737 engines don't hang vertically from the wing so if the fan cowls haven't been latched closed the inbd cowl will hang vertically and be obvious to anyone that it isn't latched. I would suggest that is why the...

Re: BA engine issue at Heathrow

Due to the engines being so low to the ground it is not unknown on the A320 series for the fan cowl latches to be missed when pre-flighting the a/c after maintenance, not withstanding the engineer who closed the cowls not latching them in the first place. I suspect when the RH cowl went on its merry...

Re: B747-400F Down at Bagram

I was at Kabul Airport in 1983. The Russian a/c all took-off and then circled over the field to gain altitude, chucking out flares every 15 seconds, before going on their merry way.
