Re: Royal Navy Boeing

The vessel behind is a seems to me a strandard looking craft seen in many places... Navy tug livery?? The Jetfoil was sold many, many years ago and the pic posted was taken in August 1982. Ah right. The vessel I have seen is just a bulk carrier that was in port for a few days last week, but it was ...

Re: Royal Navy Boeing

Was this picture taking in Belfast Port? The ship in the back ground looks very like one that was docked here last week: I'm working in the docks area at the momet. Alas, I missed this vehicle.

Re: BA engine issue at Heathrow

In any event, although Chris Trott thinks the engines are the same , the CFM on the majority of Airbus 319s is in fact different from that on the Boeing 737-800 - it has fewer compressor stages and therefore the fan cowl probably comes in a different position relative to the pylon ( even assuming t...

Re: 1-11 50th Anniversary Year

Unfortunately the announcement came last week. Such a pity, I wouldn't have made it myself but it would have been a wonderful opportunity for enthusiasts to make one last flight on her. I have flown on Aer Lingus and Ryanair One-Elevens in the past. It least it does look like Northrop Grumman's airc...

Runway/taxiway markings

I was wondering if anyone had any information on the recent history of runway/taxiway markings. I'm especially interested in standard markings in the UK and Europe in the period 1950-1970 and when such markings became standardised. It's very difficult to find any definitive information. Help would b...

Re: 737 surprise

It is quite extraordinary how one starts to "feel" the movement of the aeroplane, even on a static simulator. Also, in general how much more direct input is needed to the controls - that was the experience I had. I was in a 747-400 simulator once, and by the time an hour was gone I'd done ...

Re: Reverse Thrust Before Landing

I'd imagine reverse thrust is armed, and the buckets deployed as airbrakes rather than thrust reverse power actually being applied prior to touchdown. It's not that uncommon: here's a similar example: http://myaviation.net/?pid=00612765 Pretty nifty installation, with the exhaust cowling sliding bac...

Re: AA and US Airlines To Merge

Speculation has been rife about this, especially since the new corporate identity was unveiled - incorporating a flag graphic on the tail. The tiny eagle graphic on the forward fuselage is desultory given the proud history of the eagle on past AA liveries. It looks like a curled piece of paper. I as...
