Bah, the heck with the weather. Apollo 12 was struck by lightning twice during her launch and she was fine.

Re: August 29 1233 GMT Artemis Launch

Apart from the boosters strapped to the side, the design looks very similar to a Saturn V to me, although, I guess that the technology has moved on significantly. Actually, it's more Space Shuttle than Saturn. The RS-25 engines are ex-shuttle. They were reusable then, but will now only be used once...

I always liked the BA world tails... there were some interesting pieces of artwork in there and I liked the variety. I guess I'm a minority... ;)

Re: Screenshots in MSFS - HDR

I had a quick look on Google to confirm my suspicion, and found this: SDR is 8-bit (256 values for each RGB color), and HDR is 10-bit (1024 values for each RGB color). Most software still only captures images in 8-bit formats, since HDR is not really that popular on PC. Such formats only allow you t...

Re: Pilot Induced Tunnel Vison

I suspect it's a small 360 degree camera. With one of these, a full 360 degree view in all directions is continuously recorded and this allows you to select a particular viewpoint during editing. A gyro stabilised rig on a stick from the top of the tail would be pretty complex due to its bulk and we...

Re: Password managers ?

For those of you using Firefox, have a look at their app: Lockwise. It syncs with the stored passwords in Firefox using a Firefox account and the app allows the use of these same logins on a phone or tablet (I use it on iOS, they have a version for Android too). Completely free and very user friendl...

Re: Morayvia Museum in Scotland.

They certainly have lots of plans, but they appear to have the means and drive to see them come true too. In 2019 they were planning to mount the Vulcan nose against the new building at such a height that it would allow the entry door to be opened so that it too can be inspected on the inside. I'm a...

Re: Morayvia Museum in Scotland.

Can I just second Ben's recommendation? Morayvia has loads of great objects, engines and partial or whole airframes as well as some great volunteers with a lot of good stories. I love the fact that it is a hands-on place, you can get up close to a lot of stuff and even inside them. One of only a few...

Re: Dave Maltby site down?

I just checked and the links on my 'Fly a VC10' page still work. As I haven't changed those in ages, the original storage location on Simviation is unchanged. Some of the older stuff on that page is on my own server. That's just the VC10s of course... but at least all is not lost

Re: One pleasurable night in the Netherlands.

Back in May, expectations were that flights would be restarted by August.... guess that's not going to happen. I would suggest keeping an eye on this page: http://www.airnieuws.nl/index.html (Yes, the first page is in Dutch but click on 'Fokker' and you'll get the latest fleet news in English). Any ...
