Re: Question regarding the PA28 - Archer 111

Nigel : it is over 30 years since I flew a Cherokee of any type , but from recollection some of them had an rpm range which it was important to avoid in the cruise to avoid resonance and possible crankshaft fracture - the range is only very vaguely remembered but was something like 2250 - 2350 rpm ....

Re: Vintage airline timetables

Utterly fascinating. I have just dipped into the Aeroflot ones from both pre WW2 and from the 50s, when my Father, who was in the timber trade, used Aeroflot quite a lot - with mixed results ! Did you know that they operated from Urumchi to Alma Ata !!?? - or that may have been CAAC but it is in the...

Re: Douglas DC 6 in Msfs

IIRC Airwork / British United Airways had a fleet of them in the 1950s/60s which were used on African Routes and trooping contracts to Aden and the like

Re: Two rare sightings

Dave f : interesting to hear from someone who actually flew the ATP . When I was Liverpool based we had the Manx ATP around daily, and later IIRC one that went to the ill-fated Emerald . If we were standing side on to the props during startup we certainly got the ripping calico as the speed rose,and...

I believe that a warrant should be issued by the International Criminal Court against Lukashenko( ? spelling) . It would mean he never could leave Belarus or his cronies in the former Soviet Union

Re: Two rare sightings

With ungeared engines, you only need a prop of about 8 feet 5 inches diameter to start getting into the transonic region at high rpm. It became a notorious problem with aircraft such as the ATP which, like the Harvard, made a noise like ripping calico !

When your luck's in .....

This is astounding ( and the other a/c - yet again a Cirrus - also survived after deploying the parachute)
