Re: MSFS CTD

Hi Paul, I switched to AMD prior to MSFS but what I can say is that comparisons with other games showed an improvement with the AMD CPU but that may be largely due to having an aging Intel chip. Either way is that MSFS, when running, runs very well indeed, even on my modest 5600x. Thanks for that in...

Re: MSFS CTD

Too soon! Despite those test flights lasting longer than an hour with no problems my CTD woes are back. Interestingly I had a CTD prior to the latest update (crossed fingers it was an aberration, rather than what has become normality). Also interestingly I can have a CTD without even bothering to fl...

Re: Converting to Windows 11

Conversion to GPT completed. It was a bit bizarre to be honest. The conversion was failing on the allocation of 100Mb for EFI despite there being plenty of free space. In the end I shrank the volume by 100Mb. That did the trick but instead of using the space I had created, the conversion process sto...

Re: Converting to Windows 11

Thanks for that Ben. My problem is that I'm not seeing the M2 as a boot drive in BIOS when attempting to use Secure Boot. It's suggested in a number of places that it being MBR is the root cause. Having said that, if I do convert and still don't see it then I'm b*ggered. There's no going back after ...

Converting to Windows 11

At least in the process of. It has been, and still is, a faf. PC is compatible - except it wasn't set up for Secure Boot. No problem thinks me... not quite so quick says BIOS. One BIOS update later I discover my M2 drive has got in on the act by being a plain old MBR type drive. Fortunately there's ...

Re: Happy Birthday chrispbits (63)

Many thanks chaps and apologies for the late response. Off the grid in last few days. I wanted to go somewhere warm and dry (not the airing cupboard) and we ended up in Derbyshire where it was cold and wet. One thing of interest to folks here... we were in Chatsworth House on the first floor a...

Re: MSFS CTD

I think that it's now safe to say that my MSFS CTDs are behind me. the trick with the C++ redistributables seems to have done the job. Now that I've been able to get in a bit more flying time the quality of this latest release of MSFS is very impressive. Aside from my trim wheel being extremely over...

Re: Best PC companies, please

Hi Paul, there are still plenty of cases around that allow installation of full size DVD/CD drives, even if you have to open the front door to get to it. Like Ben I use mine to rip my CDs to FLAC then archive them - at least mostly done; I got bored after about 250 CDs.

Re: Best PC companies, please

Thanks Ben. Definitely something to bear in mind. So far so good since my recent changes but then again I've only had the one session.
