It was a really, really good programme. He's a great storyteller and so charismatic. Some superb and well judged archive footage, though the digital colourising I could have done without. The only flaw was that it could have been an hour longer, or a two-parter, with more on his postwar career.

I'm actually a little surprised that the 747s are to remain in service as long as 2023 and beyond. That said, I don't know what their average age is. Times are certainly changing.

Such a pity as she was scheduled to take part in a flypast in Dublin on Sunday and it would have been my best chance of seeing her in flight.
