I know that most of the names were chosen for their familiarity by "farm boys" who made up a sizeable portion of the US military. Names like "Zeke", "Betty", "Oscar", "Nate", etc. were relatively common names back then and thus were easier to remember.

Vegas, we're talking the unofficial nicknames given to airplanes by crew, maintainers, passengers, etc., not the official designations. BTW, one of those links shows "Aardvark" as the nickname for the F-111. That's the aircraft's official name, not a nickname. As well, the B-36 was never c...

John, I will try, but I am still having problems getting into the website from my home computer, so it may take some time.

I think that's true to some excent, but most of the source of workload during flights id faily well distributed. For example, the startup procedure may take 3 minutes versus 1 in real life, but once you're setup, your workload comes down quite quickly. The other thing that I look at is programs like...

Hi Chris Is it as complex as I imagine? A lot was done from the engineers station in those days. Garry In many ways it is, but in others it isn't. I'm still trying to figure out what one of the 60-odd gauges on the main panel because it's listed as "Plexiglas window", so I'm wondering wha...

I've asked for the checks to come in dependent on time as well (several others chimed in on this before you joined the forum too). He's busy finishing school for the year, so hopefully he'll be able to knock out several of the big issues in a few weeks.

I received my copy of Martin Mars Flying Boats in the mail. It includes a diagram of what each gauge and switch is on the engineer's panels. I'm considering making an Engineer's panel for the Mars my first big panel project, but I'm not yet ready to commit to it.

A interesting and more realistic mod would have been the Napier Nomad turbo-compound engine: this got as far as being type-tested (in a Lincoln or Shack) before being abandoned. It offered a very low SFC, but was a piston engine in an increasingly jet era. But wasn't the Nomad still liquid cooled? ...

I can change the data at any time. One more thing - Please send screenshots in sim of the aircraft we're adding. Here's the rules - Must be a real world airline (or former real world airline) color scheme Must not be any larger than 400x200 pixels, in jpg format and no larger than 40KB. I will then ...

Okay, if the Pratts don't work, then would you at least have considered the Allison T56 installation? Would've been kinda cool to see a quartet of those big turboprops on a Shack.
