Farnborough 1962 - Colour Photos
Some high quality colour slides of the 1962 Farnborough Air Show have (temporarily, unfortunately) come my way and, bearing in mind the aircraft types involved, I thought you might enjoy seeing scans of some of them. I'm afraid I don't know who the photographer was so I can't give him proper credit or ask his permission but I hope he won't mind some of his excellent work being shown to such an appreciative audience!
So, come back 45 years with me to a typical September day at Farnborough - sun peeping through the threatening shower clouds, puddles on the tarmac and brollies and macs well in evidence - a time when the show still took place every year and all the aircraft taking part were British! If you look carefully, you may see some very famous faces and as you look, just remember that although these aircraft are now "classics", at the time these photos were taken, they were at the cutting edge of technology and the latest things in the sky.

Thank you for sharing these with us Pete...I too was at that show in 1962 albeit a tad younger.... and your shots brought back many memories. The liveries especially are so pristine and it is nice to see the superb polished aluminium on the Trident.......happy days.....
Regards.

Forgetful I may be but I'd not forgotten that Garry I have a 'suitable' airframe here waiting for a new lick (a few new licks actually as my current AREA is a Srs2) :o

I don't think we have the 10 in that livery either... least not with the titles on the nose.
Now... (I'm fishing) But the silver bellied Trident 1 is my favourite of the lot... stunning in red square.

The Trident sure is smart
All BEA Red Square at the time except the Vanguards and Heralds were polished bellys at first. Not many Tridents were delivered with it though.
Note also it did not have the polished window surrounds they later sported.
The window surrounds were also added to the Comets including on some at least, the blank at the front.
