MIke, thanks very much for your reply. The Halifax is in good hands, no doubt about it. Please keep the updates coming.

Looking ahead to possible repaints, has anyone ever seen a Hercules-powered Halifax in Coastal Command colours ? All the photos I've come across are of aircraft with Merlins. I've seen a brief reference to B.Mk.IIIs being used for meteorological flights out over the Atlantic, but whether they wore a Coastal Command camouflage scheme ( or were even operated by Coastal ), I have yet to find out.

Mike ? Anyone ? :)

Hi Paul,
I'm not the Mike you refer to, but I can't resist a request for help.
The early Coastal Command examples were loaned from RAF, and were most likely Merlin engined.
I just spent an hour compiling a list of Marks, engines, etc, only to find that my login timed out, and I lost the lot :wall: :wall:

Bristol Hercules XVIs and 100s came later in the story, but I would imagine that CC would have received some of these.
I have some low quality B&W photos of radial engined Met examples, one with black under, one white. Not good enough to use as paint reference though. :(

Mike, if you can post the picture of the radial with the white undersides, I'd appreciate it. The quality of the picture doesn't matter - I'd just like actually see one !

Paul,

Coastal Command radial engined Halifax Mk III, black undersides.

Unfortunately, the one with white under is a rear view, and whilst it is from the same Squadron, it is a Mk V series 1 special with Merlins

Quoted from Wiki, confirming that X9 code is correct for CC

Thanks for that Mike - almost got there. ;)

I've found this, which is a 202 Squadron aircraft, based at Aldergrove. They conducted met flights using the Halifax until it was replaced by the H.P. Hastings in 1950. From the chronology of 202, I think they were still part of Coastal Command during this period.

Dave B and I were the only people who seemed to fly the Halifax/Halton. I must get my TR up again when this version comes out.
