Question on MCE.

I downloaded Multi-Crew Experience for X Plane 11 and have spent 2 days trying to get the damned thing to interact with ATC but no joy. 
Has any-one else tried it?
I also tried Pilot2ATC but quite honestly the phraseology that is far too complicated for me poor brain though it does have grammar help which I used but still found it complex.
