It does seem to Rick, with the exception of the TacPack / XMLTools stuff. They'll need updates from the respective developers. Only had a brief flight with it so far though.

Maybe, but there is the prospect of self-reflections (not on a personal level you understand, just materials! ;) )

If this is indeed the purpose of the extra channel, but without it the sim regards it as blank/black (and thus darkens metals), I'd like LM to include a simple flag in v5.1 which simply doesn't attempt to render self-reflections (if this is possible).

I just did a longer flight using v5 using the Just Flight DC-6. Flying from Chicago to San Francisco as a test flight, with all my ORBX scenery installed.

Now I am running basically the default settings except that I set the autogen to maximum. When you use v5 at first it seams like there is not that much change, UI is changed a little, all the old aircraft I have tried seam to work the same , but I have not tried very many. I start the flight, get up to cruise altitude and set the sim rate up to x16 and just enjoying the view as we pass over the scenery. Then over the mountains somewhere it hits me,,,

There is no blurry scenery, I'm not seeing autogen trees and buildings being added all over the place as they are already there, and the frame rates are staying very smooth as we race over these mountains. I think the graphics engine is very different and much improved over v4.5.

Only real problem I had was some of the reflective metal surfaces had sort of a blue cast to them, which is not a big problem since you can only see it when using the outside view. I have had an issue where if you leave the ATC window open I get a bug where the sim says the graphics card stops responding and the sim CTD's, so I avoid using ATC if possible.

Hello,

Blimey is it really 12 years since I joined?

V5 has re-kindled my interest again so will probably purchase and give it a whirl.
What does everyone recommend?

1) Remove all old versions, addons and install V5, then reinstall all your addons?
2) Install V5 alongside V4 (can it share add-ons?)
3) Uninstall previous versions and install V5 then just relink addons?

My biggest bug bare with previous versions was the FPS in VR was still quite low.
Can anyone confirm if FPS in general has improved?

Regards,

Ted.

p.s. Any incompatibilities found so far with addons?
I have gone for 2) Ted - no problems so far

Finally had a chance to try v5 last night. Very impressed. No CTD (yet!). Frame rates are up approx 20% for me with the same settings used in v4 plus truesky. Haven't tried VR yet. Took off from EGLC over Orbx TEGBS and flew over London towards Heathrow. Frame rates was locked at 30 and that was where it stayed. I did briefly try setting it to unlimited and it was floating around the 50fps mark. Mind you I haven't added any AI traffic yet.

Will play some more today.
I am using mostly AIG converted AI Aircrtaft, along with FAIB with no problems. I am even using the Alabeo Tomahawk as AI with no apparent frame rat hites.

No GenX for NI I’m afraid. I made my own a while back with help from George, but never got it finished so only covered Co. Down and Antrim
