I see you got around the problem by using only a single colour on the belly. ;-)

Try an experiment by painting two colours in the areas between the wing LE and the gear doors and the wing TE and the radar dome (at least I think that white bulge is the radar dome ;-) ). Even a simple one pixel wide stripe will do over a base colour if it slopes from the wing root area on the side of the fuselage to those two areas I mentioned. You should find that the thin line suddenly gets 'pulled' into a broad stripe in both locations.

A single colour doesn't show the problem for some reason, probably as the 'pulling' is not so noticeable as the texture gets wrapped around the model.

If it's texture just on the sides they will have to pull across.

In that particular area it is at it's widest and probably just crosses the threashold of possibility and neatness and the last pixel pulls right across that extra area.

This is very common and often means paints have to be adapted to suit.

Thanks for the reply Garry, it looks like that is indeed what is happening. Oh well, time for some more experiments I guess. If I make a gradient 'rainbow' pattern across that area I might be able to find just where it pulls by the colour and then I will know just how for I can bring the design down the belly.

You could perhaps just put a ruler on the paint at that point and then read off the scale exactly what happen and where.

Any calibrated scale will do

I got it figured out using the gradient bands but it's a bit complicated. I am going to throw together a quick and dirty webpage with pictures and details as it may help a few newbies (like myself ;-) ) when they come across these strange events. It's nice to finally solve the problem instead of just banging my head against the wall in frustration! :brick:

At least the pain is subsiding now. ;-)

Thats why we always encourage folks to ask as you can easily lose an evening trying to find an answer.

We will probably know because we've been there before when we starting out :)

PC-7.zip is the model which works in both FSX and FS9 but Tim is currently completing a fully native FSX PC-7. :welldone:

PC-7_KIT.zip is the paint kit Tim made for it.

PC_7_PK.zip is a layered paint kit Falcon409 made for it based on Tim's original kit.
