Scenery for VA Helo Ops

Post by RAF_Quantum »

Hi Guys,

Until we get a date relevant package of oil rigs for the ODG scenery it's a question of installing the required packages and then removing the scenery files that are not applicable to the era of our VA operations. There is a lot of scenery in the ODG packages so unless you want to get confused and land at the wrong rig with the associated penalty I do recommend that you have installed just the rigs that we shall be using.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Main scenery installation:

Go to this page, which is the UKEZ/Offshore/Fixed/All areas section :

http://www.fs-odg.com/index.php?ind=dow ... iew&idev=8

You will need the the one file from each of these download locations :

UKEZ - N_MF
UKEZ - N_NSN
EKEZ - C_NSC

The next download location has 10 files available :

UKEZ - S_NSS

From these 10 files of which you will need eight. Download all apart from Rough and Ravenspurn.

Once you have downloaded these packages please instal them as per the ODG installation instructions but do not activate the scenery at this time.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

AFCADs

Go to this page, which is UKEZ/Extras/UKEZ -AFDs

http://www.fs-odg.com/index.php?ind=dow ... ew&idev=26

You need to get the file UKEZ ASFDs Offshore FS9 v1.0

Once you have downloaded this package please instal as per the ODG installation instructions but do not activate the scenery at this time.

1. Navigate to where you installed the scenery until you get to Offshore\ODG\UKEZ\Fixed and you will see four subfolders for the different areas that you installed.

Thanks John, I hope you fun sorting that lot out :prayer: , it has just taken almost 2 hours to download and install it; my old eyes need a rest now! That said, it is worth the effort, just hope I have not missed one out.
I think making sure you have the correct rig is going to be harder than the actual rig landings which seem pretty easy. They do have nice big pads.

They do have nice big pads.
Not big enough for me!!

There is an easier option Trev.. just download the main areas listed and install them. The only downside with this is that you get the FULL fields and not just the ones we go to. Certainly makes FSNav look very busy

Hi Folks

Just a heads up/reminder.
Please ensure you install as per the folder structure in the documentation.
All upgrades will depend on this structure being correct.

We also have work ongoing to make the packages multi FS version capable,
Again the standard folder structure is required.

We have FSX implementations pending.
Again the standard folder structure is required.

Finally the relevant part,
following John's request,
we're looking again at a 'time machine' implementation,
which will enable the relevant sceneries by date.
Again the standard folder structure is required. :)

Hope the message is understood. :worried:

Don't quote me here but I think you're trying to impress on users that 'the standard folder structure is required' ;-)

Cheers Paul :)

Hi Paul,

Thanks for re-affirming and giving the reasoning behind why I requested folk 'instal to ODG installation instructions'. Just to make sure everyone is clear about my instructions, the packages as listed above MUST be installed as per ODG instructions. Once installed, 'hide' the bits of the scenery/afd's etc as per my list. This will then give a rough approximation to the oil rig population at the time the Wessex were active. Regarding leaving everything in, you may find frame rates get hit the more rigs you have visible. Once you get closer to the rigs and your field of view narrows for landing the frames should improve. The more un-necessary rigs there are the more confusing things may become for you. I did a quick test last night to the Leman AQ rig just to test that FlyNET put me at the right location and all looks well. One thing I have noticed with the helo ops is the client DOES take a long time after putting the parking brake on before it spits out the report so you will have to be patient. I still think it's having a 'think' about how you get airborne and logging/calculating the time.

I have installed them all in the order they came via the automatic installer, but all those installs went into in a new folder VA Microsoft games/FS9/ VA offshore They were then edited as per instructions and them activated. I have landed on most of them off Gt.Yarmouth and all seems well.
