Viscount to Ghana

Post by Garry Russell »

Just read that in late 1958 Airwork and Hunting Clan Introduced a service form Gatwick To Ghana with Viscounts

Gatwick-Las Palmas-Accra-Bathurst-Freetown.

Las Palmas was a tech stop where as fares were offered to terminate at Accra or Bathurst.

Hello Mate..

It'd certainly be a bit faster than the Viking  I take it the Viscounts in question were 800's??

Cheers Me Dears

I live in the hope that one day, we can introduce the 700's (I have a couple lined up for Air Med duty) but any new routes to anywhere are always greatly accepted.. except perhaps by John

AH yes 700's

They did routes that 800 never did in BEA service as the 800 lacked range. The 700's though didn't do Paris and some other near routes from LHR, instead they kept the Ambassadors on there until the 800 came along. The 810 was in effect an 800 with the range of a 700.

BEA did quite a few longish trips in them like Moscow and even Cairo.....one of the few places both BEA and BOAC operated to. Made up for Amsterdam and Rome I suppose
