Hi all!
As I'm about the start training for the TR on the Viscount 800, I'm wondering what the optimum height/speed is for the best fuel efficency?
Thanks!

Re: Viscount
Hi Kieran..
Doesn't look like we have many active Viscount pilots I've 2 sets of figures and I can't be sure which one is more current (I don't fly the Viscount often and when I do, it's generally only on short hops) but, from the first set, I have 1743kgh/14000ft/214kias and for the second.. 1230kgh/15000ft/201kias. From memory (sigh!) I think I planned from the second set but got fuel consumption closer to the first. The Viscount will go a fair whack higher than I fly it but as I say, I only do comparatively short hops in the old girl so I'd lose more fuel climbing than I'd save with a slightly higher groundspeed.
Be careful with the Viscounts.. failure to adhere to Frasers checklist will have engines failing (normally down to the PUD's not being switched on)

Re: Viscount
IRL...BEA from the CI to LHR were usually 13,000 North..14,000 South
Jersey-Southampton typically 9,000 North 10,000 South
Jersey-Southampton typically 9,000 North 10,000 South

Re: Viscount
Yep.. that matches pretty well my sort of alt. I don't really know what the 15000ft listing is for.. it's maked Rev1 so I must have tried something at some point in the past. It would seem 14k was and is my usual setting but thinking back to my last flight, it had been almost 12months and my rating was due to expire. I couldn't remember which one I used so planned for Rev1 and got the other (14K) fuelburn. Fortunately there was enough in the tank and I was able to top it back up on the return

Re: Viscount
One they took the number 4 compressor off them, and in a bid to reduce cabin differential to prolong life, 17000 was the ceiling (802/806). 14000-17000 was about the norm. The Midland and later BAF 810s used to go up to about 19000
