Angelholm airport (HS-780 Andover)

Post by DavidK »

Hi all,

I've found some scenery for Angelholm / Angelholm-Helsingborg Airport, used by the HS-780 Andover, but have also seen two ICAO airport codes associated with it: ESDB and ESTA. I reckon both identify the same single airport -- i.e. I could try scenery identified as either ESDB or ESTA -- but I'm not sure. Can anyone confirm, please..?

Hi David :)

ESDB is the old ICAO code for Angelholm-Helsingborg airport.. ESTA is the new code. I've nothing (at this point) to indicate why the code has changed but they are one and the same as far as location goes :) Are both codes included in the FSA database?

Thanks for the speedy response, Dave. It looks like ESDB is the only code available at FSA as an HS-780 destination, but I'm going to try the ESTA scenery I've found -- it looks as though it might be more comprehensive -- then see what happens when I try flying there with FSA.

The FS Airlines client won't know what the airport code is, it only compares your latitude & longitude with the airport Lat/Lon values held on their database.
If you're within a certain distance of their Lat/Lon, it agrees that you landed at the planned airport.
So it should work fine with either scenery.

Yes.. I'd concur with that DM ;) Sometimes, there are overlaps.. I think there used to be one at Basle which, if starting the flight on the runway, could flag to FSA/FlyNET that you were at the wrong airport(depending on the runway of course)! That was sorted. You shouldn't have any such problems with a simple name/ICAO code change :)

Yes, flying to and landing at ESTA worked fine. Thanks!

As the database can only support one ICAO code at the moment, we decided long ago that the code would be the one used in the default FS9 for all database airports. Once the capability is added to have more than one ICAO code, you'll see quite a few airports get ICAO code updates.
