Hi,

glad to read you like the scenery Peter

I haven't found pics of Malindi, so what you see is a "best guess" there.
For Nairobi and Mombasa we had some pics to work with.

Best Regards
Wolfgang

Hi Wolfgang,

Naturally we could not base ourselves in Hunter FGA9s at Malindi for the Festival, so we based ourselves at Mombasa. We did the display over the beach at Malindi, which was black with people. After the "bombshell" break from the formation aerobatics the other three went back to Mombasa while I carried on with my solo aerobatics. I remember the beach was long but curved and my final manoeuvre was a very high speed low level run down the beach but just over the sea...I remember that it was the first and only time that I ever did a curved high speed run, and at that speed I was surprised at just how much bank I needed to stay over the sea. Anyway, I heard afterwards that the crowd liked that bit best of all...I pulled up from that run into a 45 degree climb and with full stick left disappeared rolling rapidly in the direction of Mombasa.

Back on the ground at Mombasa we all climbed aboard a Twin Pioneer and were flown to Malindi airport and then trucked to one of the four hotels on the beach...It was the Blue Marlin hotel and I remember we were made very welcome and quite a party ensued. I got talking to the owner of the hotel and it seemed that he had just been caught out by the DATE. He had failed to remember that the lobster season had closed yesterday and he had a fridge full of lobster meat that he could not by law, serve to his guests...He very kindly made up a pack of lobster meat for each of us to take back to Nairobi.

We were flown back in the TwinPin from Malindi to Mombasa and so Wolfgang I'm afraid I can remember absolutely nothing about Malindi Airport and I expect it looked very much like your representation of it. The following day we flew our Hunters back to Nairobi, via a Flypast down the beach and over the Blue Marlin hotel :)
