Alaska & NW Canada scenery recommendations please

Post by Paul K »

The title says it all, really.

With various little FS projects going on, like my Bomber Command airfield, I thought I'd also 'develop' a geographical area with as much scenery / mesh / airports / stuff as I can. I flew from Arctic Village (PARC) to Barter Island (PABA) the other day in my trusty Catalina, and decided the cold North West is the place to do it.

The rough area I'm thinking of is the shaded rectangle in the map below, but with very elastic borders. I'm not going to pass up some wonderful add-on scenery merely because its a few hundred miles outside the box.

I've been looking through the appropriate sections of Robert-Jan Oosterloo's amazing free scenery listand downloaded Raimondo Taburet's Alaska mesh - all 1.1 Gb of it ! Additionally I have the truly excellent Glacier Bay V2... but thats it so far.

Any pointers, links and recommendations will be very gratefully received.

Thanks all !

I have UT Canada/Alaska Paul and it certainly add's a great deal to that part of the world. There is a slight overlap into the US so if you happen to have UT USA, the two will merge perfectly  It also offers a choice (multiple choices really) of lighting for day and night and all major (and a good many minor) roads  If you use PeterM's McLeland Field, the airfield takes on water but an option in the setup for coastlines will see it to it's former self.

Payware.
Vancouver+, Misty Fjords and Tongass Fjords. The Georender Alaska Cinematic scenery looks good too.

Freeware:
Glacier bay v2 and Victoria+
Error 482: Somebody shot the server with a 12 gauge.

Dan, Dave...hate to bring up the X-word, but is the UT scenery compatible with you know what ? I'll upgrade from FS9 at some point, and obviously would like to be able to carry forward as much payware as possible.

You mean FSX?

Don't be shy, I know that both Dave and I have it installed.

Many of the Fs2004 sceneries should be equal useful in FSX as well.

But try visit the UT forums, as I'm sure they are on their way of converting into "real" FSX scenery.

As you know the terrain engine has changed quite drastically, and thus enabling more detail to the landscape...

Brings a new meaning to the term 'The F word' doesn't it  TBH Paul, I've no idea. As Dan said, the terrain map has changed drastically between sims which would suggest it may not be 'forward' compatible. Check the UT forums or Flight1 if you're unsure  What you DON'T need is a new load of 'X' being polluted with a dodgy bit of scenery!

EDIT..
I've just had a look on the UT forums mate and the simple answer is no.. not yet although there will be v2 editions of all existing areas released at some point
