FSX on iMac
Has anyone tried using FSX on an Apple iMAC?
I was considering upgrading my existing Windows 7 desktop but all I use it for is FSX, I have just reinstalled FS9 to get to grips with the QWRJ/146 before the FSX release.
I use my MacBook and iPad for everything else.
The specs look as if it would work using the dual boot/parallels option.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Regards
John

Re: FSX on iMac
There are plenty of people who do, when running Windows there's no difference between a Mac and any other PC of the same hardware spec. So obviously if it's got a weak graphics card and 1GB of memory it'll still run FSX like a dog, but if you've got a decent card and 4GB then it should be fine. On the downside I hear you have to sell major organs to upgrade a Mac!

And you'll need to buy a copy of Windows unless you already have one you can use.

Thanks for your guidance and advice guys
As this will be my last big upgrade I will visit an Apple store in the near future and see how the land lies.
SWMBO will I'm sure agree to the expenditure and it will ensure compatability with her iPhone and iPad, thats the tact I will use.
Anyhow I will keep you posted.

Re: FSX on iMac
I'll be interested in how you get on, John, as I'll be replacing my laptop later in the year. At the moment it's a straightforward choice of Windows 8 and an i5/i7 processor but perhaps there's something else to consider.
Although with my limited experience of Apple software I'm not tempted to use their OS
Cyberbrat says I should be looking at a W8 machine that combines touchscreen and keyboard. Which means that's what he wants

Hi Ian
Yes I will keep you updated.
I am an Apple convert and use the iPhone, iPad and MacBook. The OS was different when I first used the MacBook but I now consider Windows to be a bit sluggish and cumbersome. However I will need to use Windows with FSX using a duel boot on the iMac but only for FSX.
The prices range from £999 - £1649 for the iMac. This is the version with screen and built in hardware and looks very nice. I does away with the tower, giving more desk space. They use i5-i7 duel/quad core CPU AMD Radeon HD 6750M/6770M with 512MB RAM depending on the configuration selected. The screen sizes are 21.5" or 27". My preferred option is the iMac 27" 2.7GHz model.
Tough decision to make but I will consider very carefully prior to buying.

Re: FSX on iMac
Thread resurrection time!
Has anyone made the move to an iMac and installed FSX successfully? My PC is slowly dying so I'm toying with the idea of changing to iMac.
If anyone has done so, is it easy to get FSX running? How do you use your joystick, etc? Is there an adapter for the 'thunderbolt' ports?
Many thanks
Rob
