NEW SUPER PC

Post by Buggyman »

I am about to embark on buying a new PC for my flight sim and photography hobby. This PC will most likely be my last as ill health is rapidly reducing all my activities but, you never know I might linger on a bit longer to spite SWMOWQ, it should be upgradeable in the future to keep apace with technology.

Price? This is a once in a lifetime dream machine so price is not a concern - remember all I need is the actual PC, I have monitors and SSDs already to install. Go to town guys/gals let your imagination run riot with my wallet.

Seriously; any suggestions as to the near perfect rig???

Hi Allan

Firstly, I'm very sorry to read that your health is not too good.
If you really want a top flight simming experience, then I'd avoid FSX. Prepar3D has taken most of the graphics processing off the CPU and onto the GPU and as such, will run slicker than any FSX setup for a given PC (however some FSX addons don't work with P3D).
If you're not wanting to build your own PC, then I'd look at Wired2Fire and also Chillblast with regard to purchasing. Whilst both companies sell excellent ready to use flight simming PC's, they will be happy to customise for you.

Regards

Kevin

I wish you all the best and hope you enjoy your new rig.

Thank you for the advice guys. I've been working on the theory that FSX, although still very good with the right add-ons, is now on the wane and that P3D and newer flight sims in the pipeline will be able to take advantage of more RAM (DDR4 3000MHz) and bigger memory 8GB GTX 1080 GPUs. At present it is a WIP and I will approach PC Specialists - who have built my last 4 machines, Chillblast et al to get the best I can.

Please don't think me callous or frivolous in my original post about the future but, as I see it, I have a choice to either sit and cry in a dark room or get on with what I have and have as much of a blast as my failing body will let me. Guess which option I'm going for......................

Thanks again.

Very sorry to hear of your health problems Allan. Your positive attitude is admirable. Like others,I hope you derive much happiness from your new pc when you get it. Hopefully you will let us know what you go for.
Replacing mine is a decision I keep deferring. Best wishes EricT :)

Hi Allan, so very sorry to hear about your health problems but as Eric wrote, your positive attitude as admirable and only hope that you continue onward and upwards for many, many years.

I was going to mention PC Specialists but seeing as you have already decided I won't bother!!

I was actually thinking of buying one this year from them but have decided to wait a few years as have other commitments which now must come before buying a new machine. Hope you get what you want.

Regards
Nigel.

Be sure to get the biggest SSD drive so that you do not have to use FSX or P3D on 7,200 rpm hard drive.

Or two biggest SSD drives would be nice (one strictly for flight simming and one for other uses)

Get 16 GB ram.

Your choice of 8GB ram GTX 1060 is correct and right for you!

Kevin is right about P3D but but if you want hassle free flight simming without OOM crashes or any silly error messages or flight simming crashes, stick with FSX Deluxe with SP1 and SP2 so that you can be 100 percent sure you can use all add-on aircrafts and sceneries that might otherwise not be compatible with P3D. I am not sure if any CBFS or Mantly Or Rick Piper add on planes will work on P3D.

Remember the key to success for new mighty powerful computer is hassle free flight simming without worrying about silly computer freezes or crashes which can make your relaxation and flying more enjoyable.

Regards,

Aharon

How does this look from PCSpecialist:

Processor (CPU) Intel® Core™i7 Quad Core Processor i7-7700 (3.6GHz) 8MB Cache
Motherboard ASUS® ROG STRIX Z270H GAMING: ATX, LG1151, USB 3.1, SATA 6GBs
Memory (RAM) 32GB Kingston DUAL DDR4 2133MHz (2 x 16GB)
Graphics Card 8GB NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 1080 - DVI, HDMI, 3x DP - GeForce GTX VR Ready!
1st Hard Disk NOT REQUIRED
M.2 SSD Drive 512GB SAMSUNG PM961 M.2, PCIe NVMe (up to 2800MB/R, 1600MB/W)
DVD/BLU-RAY Drive 24x DUAL LAYER DVD WRITER ±R/±RW/RAM
Memory Card Reader INTERNAL 52 IN 1 CARD READER (XD, MS, CF, SD, etc) + 1 x USB 2.0 PORT
Power Supply CORSAIR 750W CS SERIES™ MODULAR 80 PLUS® GOLD, ULTRA QUIET
Power Cable 1 x 1 Metre UK Power Cable (Kettle Lead)
Processor Cooling Corsair H80i V2 Hydro Cooler w/ PCS Liquid Series Ultra Quiet Fans

USB Options MIN. 2 x USB 3.0 & 2 x USB 2.0 PORTS @ BACK PANEL + MIN. 2 FRONT PORTS

Note: I already have 2 x 1TB SSDs which will transfer from my old unit.

From what I can see the price is good, in fact I have paid more in the past for less so prices must have come down over the last few years.

Anyway, any comments/suggestions would be welcome.

Allan
