At Last.....!!!

Post by Nigel H-J »

Ordered Computer. :excited:

Would like to thank everyone who have given me much needed advice and help which has made it a lot easier to navigate through all the specifications without having to worry as to whether or not I should have purchased this and left that out of it!!

I know that Chris has given me invaluable help and really appreciate that but instead of choosing the AMD CPU which I was seriously thinking about I have now gone for the Intel i7 9700k as I my budget was increased so decided to use the extra I had for an Intel. Purchased today from Scan Computers as they were slightly cheaper in some respects and also their customer rating for satisfaction were very good. As with anything it can be quite a difficult task in deciding where to go for a build but I feel that the price was right if my budget was lower then it would have definitely been AMD. Although one aspect is that whilst the Intel is faster in some applications, AMD itself is really not that far behind, interesting video here comparing the two: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JCGsEczbSCo

My Specs are:

Case: Corsair Carbide 100R x2 Fans Front & Rear

Intel i7 9700K Coffee Lake 8-Core, 3.6GHz, 4.9GHz Turbo - Not Overclocked.

Motherboard: ASUS ROG STRIX X360-F Gaming - - Using on-board sound

Memory: 32GB Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 3000MHz (2X16GB)

Graphic Card: NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX 270

CPU Cooler: Silent be quiet Pure Rock – Quiet Air Cooler.

Power Supply: 3XS 650W Corsair RMx Fully Modular RM650X ATX PSU/Power Supply

Storage:

1st. 500GB Samsung 970 EVO M.2 For Win10

2nd. 1 TB Samsung 860 EVO Gaming

3rd 1TB Seagate Storage Hard Drive: Additional Software & Storage

DVD: Asus: DVD Reader/Writer

Win 10 Home 64bit

Regards
Nigel.

Well done Nigel.
The spec looks very similar to the one I was looking at myself, so I'll be very interested to hear how you get on. :cpu:
Are they building it for you?

NIgel, that sounds very good indeed. I have an account with Scan and have bought components from them such as RAM and a graphics card. Their service has always been excellent. I remember the RAM; I placed my order just after 5 pm on a Friday, and it was delivered before lunchtime the following day! That sort of thing gives you confidence, and I think you've made a wise choice. I am in the market for a new computer this year, and will add compare Scan with PC Specialists, who I also rate highly.

I would be interested to know how quiet the case is, with the various fans running. :)

Hi Dave, if I were to build it it would be a total nightmare and disaster!!

They are building it for me,

Hi Chris, I know it's been a long time, but I have always thought when making a big purchase it is far better to get all the advice you can...... then shop around......then look at all the reviews of the company.........and finally...........toss the bl**dy coin!!

Hi Paul, the features of the case are:
• Clean, modern design: A more mature, understated design that fits well into any setup.
• Sound-damping side panels: Overall PC noise is reduced, resulting in a quieter rig.
• 3-speed fan controller: Fans can power on overdrive when performance requires it.
• Two 120mm fans included: Sleek fans give builders a head start on cooling their system.
• USB 3.0 compatible: For modern connectivity.
• Easy installation and upgradability: The tool-free side door makes access to the case¡¦s interior a breeze.

The one I chose was for the two fans one at the front and the other at the back. The case is £56.48 whilst the cheaper one comes in at £44.99 has only the one fan at the back, however, there are a number of mixed customers reviews some very good and some not so good but like anything else it will always be the case that any reviews will bring good and bad comments and not having any experience in ordering a 'build your own computer' I just selected it as it appears to be sufficient for my needs without being overly priced. Obviously I will find out whether my choice was a right one when it arrives. :worried:

Nigel I’ll bet fs will go like the proverbial sh*t off a shovel! With 20/20 hindsight I think that I should’ve gone for a more powerful pc 18 months ago but this one can always be upgraded if neccesary. Keep us updated on your progress. EricT

Just received this e-mail from Scan Computers

: "Your order has been reserved a build slot in our state-of-the-art 3XS lab on 25/01/2019 and is due for despatch on 29/1/2019".

Also noted at the top right of their e-mail was this:

By Appointment To
Her Majesty The Queen
High Performance Personal Computers & IT Hardware
Scan Computers International Ltd
Bolton

Well if 'er Majesty bought them then they can't be bad can they!! Wonder if she plays Game of Thrones on hers :cpu:

Nigel, if she’s a flight sim fan she’ll probably fly the BEA Elizabethan. :agree: EricT

Just had a phone call from Scan Computers and was told that the case I had ordered is not big enough to accommodate all of the setup (Graphics Card) after a brief discussion on a replacement case they have suggested a Corsair 200R Series which I am going for and it still has 2 fans.
Also read the reviews of this case.

https://www.scan.co.uk/products/corsair ... 30-w-o-psu

He also said that they will try and make it earlier with the date of completion.

From my short experience with them I can honestly say I am really happy with Scan Computers and of the way I am being kept informed of my purchases' progress and highly recommend them.

I have used a Scan computer for flightsim (FSX) for over two years. I've been very pleased with the performance and customer support given by that company.

Highly recommended.
