Nvidia sharpening tool

Post by hobby »

Would a forum member with experience of Nvidia graphics drivers please advise me on how to obtain the best results for FSX using the new sharpening tool. I downloaded the latest driver (441.66) this afternoon.

Are you wanting to differentiate between SP1/Acceleration/Steam Nev?

I am using MS FSX Gold.

I saw reference to the Nvidia sharpening tool and am curious about its function and whether I actually need to use the sharpening tool. I really don't want to use something which will only improve my screen image by a very small, perhaps an almost unnoticeable, amount.

My setup works OK as it is but I am not against trying something really useful.

I tried it in p3d. I found the default settings were too OTT for my taste, dropping it back to 0.1 or so looked better to me, just a subtle sharpening effect. Of course everybody's taste is different so it's best just to try it and play with the settings a bit. It's easy enough to turn off if you don't like it.

Any effect on frame rates? I wonder if it does anything for X-Plane.

None that I have experienced and I have set mine Sharpen at .30, give it a go and try higher settings up to 1.0 but I think that is overkill, you will see a difference but only slightly.

Thanks Dave and Nigel. I read somewhere that the Nvidia drivers are considered abut the best. I'm on holiday in England at the moment but will try this when I get back to Sydney (assuming it hasn't burnt down :( )
