FS9 and it's ILS runways.

Post by migman29 »

I don't know whether anyone has noticed this in the past but here goes.

I use RAF Valley a lot.

The ILS runway is 14 and the ILS is "live",but Fs always gives a "visual" approach, even to the twice daily Eastern Airlines
Cardiff-Valley-Cardiff Jetstream 31 .

14 is the base end and is the RW runway in use 90% of the time at Valley, the prevailing wind is usually from the South,
Fs however much prefers to use the opposing end,32,unless conditions are IMC but even then gives a "visual" onto 14.

Is there a way to "tune"Fs9 to use 14 and give ILS approaches to so equipped a/c's at all?

I use FSrealWXlite for real time weather.

Have you tried Airport Design Editor (ADE) ?

That will do precisely what you want.

I've downloaded TTools this after and had a look with that, but it doesn't seem to have done much, but having said that,
RAF Valley is IMC,the Fs9 ATIS is giving the correct runway, but still giving it as a "visual" approach.

I'll get ADE and have a look with that.

EDIT**

Tried ADE,it tells me that the ILS is stock and won't let me edit it.

Which version of Valley are you using?

If its only stock, you need to make a replacement AFCAD ( AF2 or ADEX ) and activate all the runways, then place it in scenery library to supercede the stock airport

I'm working away at present, so not got my fs computer with me.

IIRC there might be one at Military AI Works download library, with their Bae Hawks package

Or you can also find it at Avsim

Hello Pete,
I'm using the Just Flight British Airports Wales and West Midlands Volume 5 package.

The ILS is there for Valley, but there doesn't seem to be a glideslope or localiser,so nothing uses it and ATC doesn't give you the usual
"turn heading xxx, descend to xxxxx' and report once established on the localiser" instructions.

Even "flying the beam" in the stock B350 @2000' and 25 miles out,it'll turn onto the beam, but doesn't descend down a glideslope
nor register outer, middle or inner markers.

I've tried to sort it in AFCAD,Airport Design Editor and also tried Approach Creator all so far to no avail.

Coningsby's Typhoon come up and do bolters, but even in IMC with the wind blowing from the South,ATC gives the ILS runway(14)
but calls a "visual" approach.
Even the twice daily commercial flight only gets a "visual".

Have you tried with the default Valley? It sounds like something is missing in the AFCAD and if it’s not defined properly, it would be used. From memory there was a very good freeware Valley, but that was a long time ago.

Try here, get the part 5 Afcads, then you'll just need the one for EGOV

Have a look at this Pete:

https://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/threa ... hes.14074/

Seems it's to do with the XML coding.

AFCAD can add an ILS,but not an approach, apparently ADE can add/amend both(certainly in FSX),and so can Approach creator.
