Not been too hard to save money with Covid 19 raging about as have not been anywhere apart from the supermarket and even refuelling has been reduced significantly which means I have a few more pennies this year than last year!!

Came across this video and the guy who reviews VR Headsets is really good at what he does.

I sent my Oculus Rift 'S' back due to fuzziness but now it appears that what is coming onto the market is very much improved visually i.e. screen door effect although not entirely clear of it, the visuals are much improved.

The only thing that really bothers me is with the Quest 2 more or less demanding that you have to have a Facebook account in order to use it, their explanation follows in italics, so my choice of VR Headset is quite clearly down to one out of three, the Reverb G2.

Facebook says that it's merging Oculus accounts with Facebook accounts in order to provide better transparency with how it handles user data. Facebook also wants to make finding and communicating with friends in VR a simpler affair. Given that most people have a Facebook account, it seems logical for the company to merge its services instead of forcing players to make lots of separate accounts.

Existing Oculus accounts will not be required to merge with a Facebook account, however, not merging will create several limitations. Facebook says that it cannot guarantee that all games, apps, and services will work with Oculus accounts after January 2023 because Facebook accounts will be used for authentication, payment, and communication exclusively after that time. If you don't have a Facebook account on your Oculus device, it likely won't be possible to authenticate with the store, make payments, or even communicate with other players.

Nigel.

I don’t have any services from Facebook or google, but blocking their dns entries on my firewall throws up some interesting results. Loads of website or mobile apps stop working... because in the background they’re sending your data to Facebook and google anyway. The use the analytical services of these firms so, FR24 for example won’t work. (And I don’t mean google maps, I allowed that out of curiosity to see if it would still work). Basically, your data is big business and that’s why all firms want you to use their apps rather than a mobile website.

In short, I still wouldn’t have anything Facebook, WhatsApp or Instagram anywhere near me, but they actually get lots of data from you anyway without you knowing.

So at the end of the day Ben, no difference whether I joined Facebook or not!!

If they are processing my data then I would expect some sort of monthly payment for using it!! :wasntme:

Its not just that they are sending data to facebook or google, lots of sites use Google Analytics but that should not stop the site from running, but lots of companies actually host there services on google hardware, Google Cloud has become big business.

Veering tangentially for a change, when I came out of hotmail tonight it went on to msn news as usual but thia time it asked if I wanted to accept the pile of cookies from vendors.

Out of curiosity I decided to see how many vendors woud be getting my info. Have to admit I may have lost count of the hundreds at one point, but it seems to be in the range of 590 of the pesky sods. Many with spanish and german company names.

And I thought it was my collection of bugatti/lotus/goodwood/spitifre porn from youtube that was cluttering up my laptop drives.
