For X-Plane 11 Users.

Post by Nigel H-J »

If you are using either Xchecklist or the Checklist in X-Plane 11 File\Menu I had been fed up with the female voice and had tried many ways in which to change it to 'David' who has a much better and clearer voice that is easy to understand.

Found this and it works a treat, David now reads out my pre-flight checklist instead of the 'orrible females voice. :doh: :lol:
Open the Registry Editor (e.g. hit ctrl+R, type "regedit" (without the quotes) and hit Enter);
Expand the tree all the way down to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Speech\Voices ;
Double-click DefaultTokenId to modify it;
Set it to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Speech\Voices\Tokens\TTS_MS_EN-US_DAVID_11.0" (without the quotes);
Launch X-Plane and enjoy David reading your checklists out loud in American acccent;
If you have not used this function in X-Plane 11, give it a try. just copy the text below and paste it into Notepad then 'Save As' clist.txt go to the aircraft folder of the Beech Baron 58 and save it in the root directory where the acf file reside.

Once in X-Plane select the Baron 58 cold and dark then select File look down for check list once opened click load new checklist, go into the B58 folder and click on clist you might want to go to Keyboard in the settings menu and assign at least 2 functions for the checklist I have set forward arrow as next item in checklist and back arrow as previous item. If you have a female voice then go to the above to change it to male.

Don't worry about the capital letters as it can all be done lower case but this was copied from Laminars checklist I think!! :$

Hi Nigel,

Just a heads up, you can change the voices in settings in Windows. There’s a selection to choose from. No need to edit the registry.

Settings, Time & Language, speech Then Select Voices and selected the voice of your choice. George, Hazel or Susan.

Hi Ben, unfortunately I had tried changing the voice in the settings but did not work, I even, as one X-Plane 11 user suggested, renamed the voice folders in X-Plane but that also made no difference.

I also approached X-plane 11 regarding this issue but have found the answer before they did!! 8)

I came across this thread yesterday as for some reason any voice selection through Windows 10 makes no difference at all for me and some others apparently!! :doh: :lol: :lol:

No off to write up some more checklists!!

Regards
Nigel.
