If I try to control anti-aliasing with the driver, I get the same problems, but there are no problems if you allow application control. Although the frame rate was much improved, the new driver caused frame freezes every 20 secs or so. After half an hour of fiddling with the settings, in a fit of pique, I clicked 'reset defaults'. Bingo! Smooth as a baby's and FPS up from around 20 to high 30s!

The only settings I've changed are: In FS: locking FPS at 40 and in the driver: High Performance.

Thank you to Peter (and NVidia  )

Ian
Cheers for the tips, will give it another go

 but all is not glitter and gold...

But I my grass and tress have a glittery effect to them now
the drawing distance has improved to distant buildings
and the frame rates are higher but the sparkley effect
is wacky

any suggestions? maybe which textures ppl are using (in the freeware catagory)

Thanks ,
Joe

PS. I can't tell a fib here..... the pun was purley intentional

Joe,

Make sure your Mips Slider in Display Settings in FS9 is set on 4...you have probably got it set higher. That is one slider you should never move above 4

Glad to hear it Joe and thanks for the PM...This is a bit different from the Guardsvan:-

This new driver is giving me a great boost in controllability...amazing how just a few extra frames per sec can help

I really like those water textures, Peter.

Also, just in case anybody other than me  forgot this:

Further to the installation of the new NVidia drivers. I read on another forum the reminder to delete the existing graphics card entry in fs9.cfg.
Delete the following entry (after backing up the fs9.cfg file):
[DISPLAY.device.NVIDIA (name of graphics card)]
Mode=(screen resolution)

When you restart FS it will rewrite the entry using the default resolution and you can just reset it in 'settings'. It gave me a further FPS improvement

Peter,

Many thanks for that link, I have FX5200 Graphic Card and this update has improved my frame rates greatly.

Many thanks again.

Ian,

Yes I like them better than the FS9 ones, and of course I like the reflections very much. I use the reflections to good effect in these display flying shots, but they are really nice in general flying at altitude as well...look at this from FSX...

Naturally when I do that sort of thing in "Little Bandit" I do it a bit differently:-

But it is a bit expensive on Beacons so it is just as well that I've laid in a good stock
