FS9 not starting????

Post by buff »

Hi all,

Well, I went and bought FSX today (the Deluxe Version priced at £60.00),
when I got my first flight its fate was sealed, with the settings fairly low... I was getting between 7 and 8 FPS!!!! (FS9 runs between 35-50FPS Normally on my system!), so i promptly uninstalled it, and returned to where I bought it from and was given a full refund. I knew i'd be back to FS9. I had uninstalled FS9 before hand to free up some disk space. When I returned home I re-installed FS9, but was surprised when I went to run it... the splash-screen appears for about 5-10 seconds and then the screen goes black and it returns to the Desktop??????, no error report message either?????

Could anyone possibly Shed light on this????

Cheers!!

Although it's just been reinstalled, sometimes it can be a faulty config file. Delete fs9.cfg from the x:\Documents and Settings\xxxxx\Application Data\Microsoft\FS9 folder, and try starting it again.

If that doesn't work, I don't know what's wrong!

Just a suggestion but System Restore may be worth a try going back to before the install of FS X

Hi Buff

Start/Settings/Control Panel/System/System restore

If turned on it will tell you the last saved restore point

I am an Idiot.......

I had the restore slider on the minimum, so the only restore point was earlier today..... after FSX was installed :crying:

Still No joy.

Buff, it's quite likely that FSX has left something behind in the registry.
Run a registry cleaner - I use CCleaner (freeware), found at

http://www.ccleaner.com/

Be sure to either uncheck 'Cookies', or go into 'Options', 'Cookies' and transfer any that contain passwords (eg CBFS) into the right hand panel, prior to running the 'Cleaner' or 'Issues' facility.

Hope this helps.

Regards.
