Ron Freimuth has passed away...

No-one can overstate the importance of Ron Freimuth in the decompiling and understanding of the intricacies of the .air file - it often seemed to me Ron had a better understanding of it than anyone else - including the flight modellers at MS!

I had a long e-mail and correspondence association with Ron over the years, and his academician and patrician approach was a refreshing contrast to the emotive pomposity and self-importance of many other specialists in the flight sim fields. He was the maths meat and physics potatoes man of flight modelling, part of the bedrock on which this hobby is founded. If he was right, the mathematics showed it, and the next version of AirEd reflecte it.
It will surely feel that the virtual skies are a little emptier for his passing. It definitely will be the case that aircraft will fly less like real for his absence.

I shall fly a loop in something totally inappropriate in his honour in the sim, and a wing-waggle flypast in the Cessna for real.

Bad news indeed.

My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends, I know exactly how they must be feeling.

I'm very sad...I'll think of him everytime I fly Bush Bandit, which he wrote the .Air file for. He was a very clever chap and we all benefitted from his meticulous work.
