well worth a visit now adays with the Motor Heratage Center Museum, the airfields not accessable though, its jags/landrovers test track

If I remember correctly there is a (very) small case in the museum with some photos and other memorabilia about the airfield.

Not sure if it's still there - the museum had a big re-furb before being reopened earlier this year.

yeah it was near the lifts, (go there many times as my sister works in the archives), they have made it more interactive throughout the museum... Ill ask my sister this weekend if its there still...

I lived at RAF Gaydon during the winter of 1963. I was quite small, and the snow so deep it reached right up to...well, it was deep, put it that way! And I had to wear shorts...thanks mum !!! :@ :@

Dave, been thinking about Gaydon a bit in the last few hours, what with the Vulcan's imminent return. We were at a rain-swept Battle of Britain day, and watched as a Vulcan aquaplaned off the taxiway into the soft grass, so putting an end to the already miserable proceedings. The main ( only ) highlight was a huge model railway in one of the hangars, to which my dad had loaned some rolling stock from the one he and I collectively owned. 'Happy' days. :roll:

I've never been a 'Rail' fan as such.. my mom has great pleasure in reminding me (and all in attendance) that I used to shake with fear when steam trains rolled into the station :o I'll add that I was only knee-high to a grasshopper at the time! Model railways have always fascinated me though and the BIG setups are works of art. Never had one though.. my dad was into brewing beer instead

Yes, there is something fascinating about a large model railway isn't there. I can easily see how people become so absorbed by them.
