I tried - I really did !!

Post by ggi »

I've been running FSX for a year now with a fairly high end system, and I've had no major issues (once I've un-securityed? the Vista OS) and the experience has been good enough, following SP1 etc. etc......
Well, last night I ran FS9 for the first time in months, and I must say it was a breath of fresh air! The UK ground was green again, the clouds and haze rendered beautifully and I was able to enjoy Gary Summons scenery, the DM models have never looked better (especially with cockpit glass again and complete textures rendered), I gave the Hunter (which I've not used in ages) a good thrashing!! and with 50-60 fps it was great fun! I'm now going to get all Ricks aircraft back in service, I'm back in control with AI aircraft and it's never been better. What was I thinking?? With FSX SP2 approaching and an 'Install on a clean copy of FSX' looming, I don't reckon I'll be using FSX much again. It's a sad development when FSX programmers have spent years developing things to the stage where the pleasure of simming has for me, diminished with the current format. I'm enjoying FS9 with renewed respect, but I still feel a bit cheated with FSX. Comments anyone?

Even with the lack of fully compatible models for FSX, you won't catch me going back to FS9.

I've got my sim up to a good standard now, a nice balance between looks and performance, and I can only see it getting better, with extra third party addons (and Acceleration, come to think of it) and gradual computer upgrades.

And anyway, my UK grass is green. There's a modification of all European textures on AVSIM to change the default sandy colour. Well worth the time taken to download...

As for me... well I ran my FSX for a month or so (FS9 fell over) but I've gone back to FS9. IMHO it just looks so much more 'realistic'. I think it's the fact that I've 'modded' it so much that FSX never stood a chance. That's not a critisism, just the fact the FS9 has had two stages of devlopement.. Microsoft's and ours... all those add-ons and tweaks we've all added have almost made it an FSX in it's own right.

Straight out of the box.. it's be close.

Kind regards

But a heavily modded FSX will blow a heavily modded FS9 out the water! ;-)

Those screenshots are pretty good.
I imagine a Cray or equivalent though if FPS is at all workable :)
