First Atlantic Jet Crossing

Post by cstorey »

Which was the first jet aeroplane to make a crossing of the Atlantic? No prizes - just interested to see how many know it, because I was surprised at the answer

Wasn't it the RAF Canberra that flew from Northern Ireland to Gander, Newfoundland in 1951?

Won't give it away either, but I did stumble on the answer (as usually happens) when reading about something entirely unconnected (or so I thought!!) :flying:

The Canberra was the first non stop but the first to cross were a flight of six in I think 1948

I know what they were but I won't say...keep it going a bit

Maybe this is not even the right answer  :dunno:

I'm pretty sure that '48 is correct, and me too, I will hold my horses a bit ;-)

I know what they were but I'm not telling, other than they got a Mossie escort.

Wasnt it something to do with eight legged creatures and well shall we say other creatures that live in the sea?
