Dave Garwoods Beaufighter

Post by DogTailRed2 »

Hi,

I'm having difficulty finding this aircraft for download.
Can someone send me a link to the files please.
The CBFiles fourm and Daves own website don't allow me to see any links for download???

Many thanks,

Ted.

Hi Ted, I know its confusing but Classic British Files Isn't part of cbfsim ;-)

The new releases and support forum here is where you will find details of new and existing models. We normally release models to members only first on here before making them publicly available ob cbfiles or anywhere else. ;-)

Hi,

thanks to everyones help I've now downloaded the Beau and been buzzing around the Isle of Man all weekend.
I'm having great difficulty in landing her. Are there any docs that explain the correct flap and power settings for approach and landing (well for takeoff, initial climb, climb, cruise, descent, approach and landing if possible :-) ).
Anyone mastered her and can give some flight tips. She seems to stall rather alarmingly which I guess is as expected on the real aircraft.

Thanks Dave for a very nice aircraft indeed.

Regards,

Ted.

p.s. They are rebuilding one to fly down at Duxford.

I believe the project, as is, has been sold and will be heading down-under for completion there. :-(

Ted, a super source for nearly everything flown by the RAF and FAA during WW2 is the "ATA Ferry Pilots Notes" published by the Yorkshire Aviation Museum a few years ago. Not sure whether it's still available but the ISBN number is 0 9512379 8 5.

Data for various marks of Beaufighter take up both sides of a 5"x3" file card, but the following should be get you airborne and back again:-

Beaufighter Mk VI/X - Hercules VI/XVIII

(All speeds quoted in mph*, all fuel in imperial gallons)
*Some aircraft had ASI calibrated in knots

Takeoff: Boost 8¼, 2800-2900rpm, Trim 1" Nose down**, rudder and ailerons neutral.

**NB The Beau's elevator trim, if incorrectly set, could NOT be overcome by the stick, and several fatalities were caused by stalling immediately after takeoff.

Climb: Boost +6, 2400rpm, ASI 170mph

ATA (ferry) cruise:
Boost -1, 1900rpm, AsI 225mph, 45 imp gallons/engine/hour

Slow flying: Boost as req'd, 2400rpm, 20deg flaps, 120 mph

Single engine (dead prop feathered or coarse):
Level: Boost as req'd, 2400rpm, 140-160mph
Climb: Increase boost as req'd, 2400rpm, 140mph

Stall: Clean 95mph, dirty 80mph

Glide: Clean 130mph, dirty 115mph

Approach and land: Flaps DOWN (max speed for flaps 135mph)

Finals: 100mph (90kts)

and lastly, in case it goes wrong

Emergency Exit (Parachute):
1 - Open entrance hatch (in floor behind seat);
2 - Lower back of seat;
3 - Back somersault out of aircraft
