In my Army days I flew AOP 4/5/6, after that I flew an L-4 for over twenty years. Now very old and into FS I enjoy recreating some of my former flying days so I thank those who have created the few Austers available, plus the creaters of the L-4, L-18/21 and L-19. The best flying is below the tree tops.
For those interested in the AOP I recommend 'Unarmed into Battle' by H.J. Parham and 'Soldiers in the Air' by Peter Mead.

Re: The last of the line......the Auster AOP.11
Hi Bob, I also had the opportunity to fly the Auster during the early seventies when I was a member of a gliding club but only flew as P2. My plan was to complete the Silver 'C' in gliding then do a ten hour conversion onto props before taking the exams but........the cost of flying per hour in those days was £15 per hour and I was only paid around £9 so used to take the Auster when it came in for aerotows up for around 30 minutes keeping my hand in on take-offs and landings (rollers). Great aircraft to fly and thoroughly enjoyed doing three pointed landings. Sadly I never did finish my Silver 'C'.

Nigel.
