Re: Rob Richardson Scimitar F1 released.

I've tried every which way to set up the clean model, but although the thumbnails show, the aircraft doesn't. First time I tried, it failed to load, now it loads, but is invisible.

I've tried both Rob's and Dave's suggested methods of adding it. Running in ever decreasing circles, I'm in imminent danger of disappearing up my own jet pipe.

:dunno:

Sri to hear this Den :(

OK.. one more time. This is how I did it:

Presuming you already have the TacPack (release) version...
Make a new folder inside your Scimitar folder called model.clean. Drop Rob's clean model into that folder along with the clean model.cfg. The model.cfg should look like this:
[models]
normal=scimitar_clean
interior=scimitar_VC

Then, drag a copy of the release versions VC from the model folder and drop it inside model.clean. Inside the folder, you should now have the clean model (scimitar_clean.MDL).. the VC model from the 'dirty' model (scimitar_VC.MDL) and the model.cfg.

There should be no need to rename the airfile or use the aircraft.cfg Rob included with the clean model as for this exercise.. we're using the originals.

The aircraft.cfg entry for the original model goes like this..
[fltsim.0]
title=scimitar Paint1
sim=scimitar
model=
panel=
sound=
texture=1
kb_checklists=
kb_reference=
atc_id=112
atc_airline=NAVY
atc_flight_number=001
ui_manufacturer="Supermarine"
ui_type="Scimitar"
ui_variation="F1"
ui_typerole="Twin Engine Jet"
ui_createdby="Robert Richardson".. e t c

My cfg for (as an example) XD212 goes like this..
[fltsim.XX]
title=Scimitar XD212
sim=Scimitar
model=clean
panel=
sound=
texture=XD212
kb_checklists=ScimitarCheck
kb_reference=ScimitarRef
atc_id=XD212
atc_airline=NAVY
atc_flight_number=212
ui_manufacturer="Supermarine"
ui_type="Scimitar"
ui_variation="XD212 - First production Scimitar F1, 1957"
ui_typerole="Twin Engine Jet"
ui_createdby="Robert Richardson"
description="Repaint by Dave Booker"..
The major difference (other than the obvious) is the model= line.. XD212 points to the clean model.

To make the Ark Royal paint or any other point to the clean model.. change the model= entry to read model=clean. You could, if you so wish, double the entries so you'd have access to both but I don't like doing that as it fills your Select Aircraft window.

The maps are identical for either model. Obviously, you don't need the stores.dds map but it's handy to keep it available should you wish to move a 'clean' paint to the TP model at some point. I'm guessing you're not seeing the clean model 'in sim' because it either has no VC.mdl or no model.cfg in the clean folder.. an easy thing to miss.

"An alternative Rob is to make a new folder.. Model.clean.. drop the new mdl in there with the original VC.mdl and use the existing aircraft.cfg.. referencing any existing paint to model=clean"

Hi Dave. This is what I read, or mis-read, on SOH forums. I didn't add the model.cfg. I have now, and it works just fine. Thanks for your help.

Just to prove it, here is 618 on the pan at Duxford. If I can catch the AI Vixen departing, I'll fly with it.

Why 618 and not one of yours Dave? It just happens to my last three!

No problem Dennis.. glad you got there in the end. My apologies for not mentioning the need for the model.cfg in the link at SoH :cpu:

The DSGrey on the paints Henk and I did look a little light when compared to other models don't they. There IS a reason for this (a couple really) and I tried an option this morning to get around it but failed and I've yet to fathom why. I'll keep chipping away ;)

Scimitar colour part deux..

This little exercise will necessitate not only re-colouring but in many cases, redrawing some of the Scimitars maps. The extra dark sea grey I've used has been lobbed onto a few paints over the years (30,94,103) but on the Scimitar.. the 'blue' is really coming out nicely. You can see a comparison between IT (fuse) and the as yet un-repainted parts..

Cheers Graham :thumbsup:

It's an odd colour and no mistakin'. It has the ability to look many different colours according to light but it works for me too. Setting about doing some re-lining and shading 8)
