Native FSX conversion 'Short Belfast'

Post by FlyTexas »

The good people at Virtavia have made a native FSX conversion of their Short Belfast. :)
Comes with the following paints. RAF Transport Command, Transmeridian Cargo, HeavyLift, and HeavyLift-white.
Get it here...http://www.virtavia.com/Freeware/index.php
Thank you Virtavia!

Does it include the panels or just the model?

It has a working 2D panel, a basic VC and a soundset as well. Nice find!

Looks like Virtavia put a lot of work into the Belfast. Here's what they're saying on their website. :)

"In addition to the updated and improved native FSX model, two new liveries have been added - those of Transmeridian Cargo Airlines and the later all-white Heavylift scheme. New flight dynamics, a full set of new gauges, improved turboprop sounds and numerous other small fixes and improvements have brought this forgotten freeware title back to life."

"An updated Paintkit for the Belfast is also available in the Freeware/Paintkits section."

Subject to more intelligent comment, I have to say that neither parking or toe brakes seem effective even at low throttle setting.
I don't know whether my computer is suffering some ailment, but switching back to cockpit view, it took sixteen seconds+/- a bit to replace greyed out windows with scenery.
Two notches of flaps and full throttle got it airborne from Ballarat, which coped with B24s during the war. Not the best cockpit rendition I've seen, but as freeware, who can complain?

I got her out of Culdrose with the same 2 notches of flap plus a smidge of trim ok. Flight model doesn't feel bad at all.. pretty much what you'd expect. Re braking and stopping.. the brakes certainly don't have your nose against the glass but are adequate. I think the Belfast is setup better than some for this reason alone. Nothing worse than bottoming out the nose gear all the time!! It will taxi on little or no throttle and the gentleness of the brakes (if I can put it like that) makes getting around a breeze. Both you and the crew will not be sick by the time you take off  Surprisingly (and refreshingly good).. bring it to a full stop and it will stop without creeping. Anyone with the CS C130 will know how that monster is off like a shot without the parking brakes on  The interior is a bit low res and harks back to days of old but it's functional. I didn't suffer any of the redraw delay Mike had though 4gb of video ram probably helps. The external model looks fine. The sounds are ok though a little hit and miss on my rig. Inside, they're ok, switch to an outside view and you'll need ear defenders

All in all.. I'm chuffed to bits with it. This is something Phil needn't have done and the fact it's now native will give it a few more years of useful life plus help generate continued interest in Virtavia. Win-win me thinks
