HU, Fairey Barracuda
HU chaps, Rob Richardson has released his Fairey Barracuda for FSX (I assume it will work in P3d as well).

Many thanks Rob!
Not the prettiest aeroplane built, but you've done a great job of it!

“Eye of the beholder” and all that, Mike.
It was a much better aircraft than it is given credit for.
It was made in larger numbers and sank more enemy shipping tonnage than any other FAA aircraft, before or since.

Rob, that looks just wonderful. It's a model I've been waiting for, ever since we first had a hint of it on your website. I don't think I've started P3D up in months, but I shall today. Thank you very much for this, and of course all your other great models.

Well Done Rob another creation of yours to keep in the hanger.
I must have a go at Carrier take off and Landings. I've not done that yet.

Yes it does Dave, I have only tried it in version 4 and it handles very well. I like the quirkiness of it, air brakes. undercarriage etc.Rob Richardson has released his Fairey Barracuda for FSX (I assume it will work in P3d as well).

Yes, I tried it in v4 just after I made the original post.
The screenshot I added later is from v4.
Not tried a carrier landing yet.

Re: HU, Fairey Barracuda
Taildraggers are sometimes a pain when it comes to carriers but to my surprise the Barracuda hooks up nicely
I have had some problems with the catapult line up, sometimes jumps and, try as I might, just will not latch on.
I've fiddles around with the settings and it occasionally works but its not quite right.
There is no bridle, there is however rocket assist take-off which only shows when launch bar is engaged.
I'm sure you'll put your finger straight on the launch problem Dave, I would like to get that sorted.
I have just uploaded the MkIII by the way.

Re: HU, Fairey Barracuda
I've discovered this is due to the way FSX/P3D treats the tailhook, once it's down it's down so when you catch the wire it remains in the fully extended state rather than swinging backwards as it should. This lets the nose tip forwards more than it would in real life, hit the deck and cause a crash or at least engine damage. I'm guessing the geometry of the Barracuda keeps the prop far enough away from the deck to get away with it.robcarrich wrote: ↑13 Sep 2017, 15:52Taildraggers are sometimes a pain when it comes to carriers but to my surprise the Barracuda hooks up nicely
You can write a dll gauge with SimConnect trickery to reduce the tailhook extension when it catches the wire but obviously that's not required here.
Looking forward to trying her out this weekend as I'm just reading the biography of a Barracuda pilot who was involved in the Tirpitz raids.
