Way back when W10 came out there were some Windows KB updates that had to be surpressed IIRC, might you look back in some forums to see if they can be identified? I dont think needed for W10, but necessary for older windows.
Good luck

Found a piece of paper.......I think any of the following KB's were the ones which stopped FS9 working, something to do when they changed registration(?).
KB3035583
KB2952664 I have noted that this one was uninstalled 20 Jan 2016
KB3021917
KB2990214
KB3080351

Not sure if this will help, hope it does.

I reinstalled FS9 last month on Windows 10 (latest build 1909 which was up to date with Microsoft updates) I also had DX9 installed before FS9. FS9 installed from CD to E:\FS2004\
No issues at all.

Thanks Keith. So do I find these updates and remove them? If so, where/how do I find them?

Paul, Now this is where my memory ends at the moment! I can only suggest that you do a search in the forums round about Dec 2015/ Jan '16. IIRC there is a listing of Windows updates that have been installed at least that was in my W 8.1, not sure if W10 has it though.
If I do manage to remember I will let you know. Sorry.
Keith

P.S. in W 8.1 go to Control Panel>All Control Panel Items> Windows Update, this should then give you on the LHS of the panel a list starting with 'Check for updates', click on 'View Update history' My listing goes back to Nov 2014! There is also a line saying: To remove an update, see Installed Updates.

Paul,

In a search engine, if you type Microsoft KBxxxxxxxx (or whatever the number is) it will take you to information on the update. If you go to programs and features in the control panel, then click on uninstall a program, then “show updates” the KB numbers of the updates are listed. It may be easier to update your windows 10 tbh. In which case, you can go here...
