Filonian wrote:Hi Ben,

Many thanks for bringing the forum back on line.

I sincerely hope that I was not instrumental in cocking things up.

Had started off the system check from Microsoft that Peter Mc posted and then got a call to the hospital to see my consultant. He had got a spare slot due to cancellation. I left my box doing its thing whilst I was away.

If caused the system to bugger up, I will put my hat and coat on and disappear into the sunset, never to be seen or heard from again.
Graham,

You will probably need to run that again...you need to click those little "+" signs to open each item at the end of the scan, and then tick all the little boxes that are revealed...Then you just click Next and it does all its final cleaning and reports to Microsoft.

Obviously you need to trust Microsoft as I do, or this very powerful little freebee is not for you

after years of reading post and been tempted to reply

Wow, I missed all the downtime so never got withdrawal symptoms this time.

Work took up most of last week and the weekend (despite supposedly Monday to Friday contract) so never came here.

Good to hear Ben has it sorted. :welldone:

Err.. it's not quite sorted yet Ian. We have had to disable email notification and none of our webmail is up at present. You will also see the hideous 'DEBUG MODE' warning sometimes when making a post or sending a PM.
The forum is running which is nice but fixed it ain't

OK guys.. heres the rub...

while phpBB is (IMHO) the best freeware Buliten Board software, it does have little funnies, that the developers may or may not decide to fix, and SMTP email is one of those.

... The science bit....

In order to cut down on spam, all email notifications are now being sent via an SMTP mail server rather than open relay. I've been trying to use the cbfs mail server, but phpBB does like it when it has to authenicate with a mail server that is the same server where it is running

If this is all a bit Techy don't worry. Basically, you should all get your notifications etc coming through now.. BUT your spam software may say that it is not coming from us, so keep an eye out in your spam or junk folder and "unblock" the notifications if you still want to see them. The email should appear to come from.... [email protected], but it may show up as [email protected]. This is actually one in the same.

So hopefully we are all back to normal now. Thanks for putting up with the irritating error messages!

All the best..
Ben.:tunes:
