Here's a list of sites where design tutorials can be found. Some are Gmax, some FSDS and some a mixture of both, or sites with further links. This is by no means a complete list of all tutorials available, but it may help to get newbie designers started :)
I haven't read through them all, so all info is given without warranty

A useful set of tutorial movies for 3ds max that apply equally well to gmax:

Stupid question maybe, but what do the CBFS gurus ( Messrs. Piper, Maltby, Garwood and Palmer ) use to build their aircraft ? And do you use the same to build the panels and VCs too ?

( I have 3DS Max 5, somewhat under-employed to say the least  )

Hi Paul

Dave M, Del P & Me all use FSDS to make the whole lot.

Dave G uses 3dsmax & Gmax as far as i know.

there are wars over which is best that i won't go into.

FSDS is in my view easier on the Brain learning wise.(my Brain at least).

Max will be the better program if you can survive the learning curve.
As it has more powerfull built in tools to make jobs easier.

providing that is you went the course and learned how to use it first.

Regards
Rick

Thanks a lot, Rick.

I'm not unfamiliar with this 3D modelling business: I used Abacus' Aircraft Factory a few years ago to build a B-29, which wasn't bad given the limit on parts and assemblies you could have in any one model.

Now with these tutorials available, and a certain aircraft in my collection crying out for an update, I might just consider dabbling once more.

I posted these in another thread, but I'll add them here too.

Finn's Gmax video tutorials. http://itsimon.ath.cx/finntutorials/

If you have trouble playing the vids, you'll need to download the TSCC codecs from here: http://www.techsmith.com/download/codecs.asp

Thanks for those Dave. I've just watched the first one about backdrops, and will now go have a play with the drawings I have. If you find anything else that you think will be useful for us beginners, please post it. Much appreciated. :)
