Whats the best aviation movie?

For me the "633 Squadron" and "The Dam Busters". They were well made.

Stategic Air Command gets my vote, I love the guy who was the Col. in MASH who pops up as the old FE. Great B36 and B47 shots and for a propaganda film, the plot is OKish too.

Oh yes. Strategic Air Command, no contest.

When June Allyson stands on the flight line waving James Stewart off for a 'training flight' you just KNOW he's going to be gone for a whole day!

And the bad weather approach into Kadena in the B-47 near the end is really scary.

Having said that, one of the best lines in any aviation film has to be the one in the 'Dam Busters' when they just don't clear a tree on a training flight.

Reach For The Sky,although primarily about the man rather than machine,was still very good.Also Battle of Britain which was an historically accurate film perhaps only a little let down by the limitation of the technical effects.However this was more than compensated for by the brilliant score including the march 'Aces High' 'Spifire Prelude'and the 'Aerial Ballet' music used in the scene at the height of the battle when the other sounds were faded out leaving only the music.Classic.EricT

Flightplan was one of those films that has me cursing the fact that I've wasted 2 hours of my life I'll never get back; however Snakes on a Plane was hilarious; dripping with post-modern irony.

Strategic Air Command was a great film, what with two historic bombers, and an actor who was a bomber pilot for real. I think I'm right in saying James Stewart was still serving in the USAF reserves...in fact I seem to remember he either flew ( or went along for the ride ), a B-52 over Vietnam as his final flight.

The original 'Airport' film, with Dean Martin, was excellent too.

British films would be Battle of Britain, The Sound Barrier and The Dam Busters.

Not sure of the exact dates but I think at the time Stewart was the CO
of the Reserve Globemaster Squadron at Dobbins AFB in Georgia
They had a particuarly unpleasent duty of flying KIAs back to to the US
from Vietnam
