Whats the best aviation movie?

Post by VEGAS »

Hi all,

been having a little debate with some colleagues. Quite an interesting one so I thought I'd throw it open to you lot.

So, whats your all time favourite aviation film. No matter how cheesey or unrealistic. What film does it for you and keeps you glued time and time again?

I have several that instantly spring to mind but I would have to say my favourites have got to be;

i) Topgun
ii) The flight of the Phoenix (the original)
iii) Airplane

I could probably name at least a dozen other's that were truly great films but these came top of my list.
Image I suffer from paranoid amnesia. I can't remember who I don't trust.Image

What about the Battle of Britain?

When they step out of Wing Co's house and you see the very modern door bell. D'oh!

Going back a bit...David Lean's 'The Sound Barrier' 1952....yes it is Black & White but the clarity of the aerial sequences were acheived by shooting partly in Infrared....makes the contrast between the blue sky/clouds and aircraft stunning. Good storyline (fictional) based on the developement of the jet engine and as the title suggests...ultimately the sound barrier.

I bought it now it has arrived on DVD...superb

Regards.

Yes, for me "Sound Barrier" and "Battle of Britain"...BTW, lurking in my loft somewhere is a complete Blue Covered Form 700 for one of the Spitfires used in the B of B film :-$

Umm lets see

No Highway in the Sky (I just like Neville Shute and Jimmy Stewart
Plus there are a couple of very good Lancaster shots in it

Also with Jimmy Stewart Strategic Air Command (Some of the best air to air colour B36 film anywhere.

Toss up between The Battle of Britain and a Little known Cliff Roberstson
movie named "The Pilot" which features alot of Zantop Dc8-61 footage
